COURSE PHILOSOPHY

Our women's self defense course is based on the following premises:

1.  Self-Defense is 95% mental and 5% physical.   Because of the foregoing, the largest time consuming portion of this course is spent discussing the mindset needed for one to defend themselves.  Without knowledge of how to acquire a defensive mindset, the victim will more than likely feint, panic or just plain submit!

2.   Having the motivation to resist and the awareness to recognize risk is critical to being able to defend oneself.  We achieve motivation by discussing the obvious, and not so obvious, risks of being sexually assaulted.  Additionally, we provide awareness by giving the student information on the methods of operation used by attackers in their quest for control.  CAUTION:  This discussion involves the use of profanity and the discussion of sexual acts/terms!

2.  The self-defense physical skills must be easily and quickly learned.  This is based on the premise that most women (and most men) are not inclined to spend hundreds of hours in a continuing training environment that complex martial arts skills might require to maintain proficiency.

3.  These self-defense skills must be simple enough to be performed in a potentially life threatening situation by individuals who may have significantly less physical strength than their attackers.  Additionally, these skills must be simple enough to be remembered well after actual instruction.

4.  Student participation in the physical defense skills is voluntary, but highly recommended.  The instructor will encourage effective, full force, contact with the heavy bag and/or dummy.  CAUTION:  With any "full force" activity, there is a potential for injury (sprained fingers, wrists, etc).

COST OF COURSE:

The normal cost, per individual, for the course is $40 for an adult and $20 for a person under 16 years of age.  This fee is based on a minimum class size of 6 with the class being held at our classroom in rural Brandon, Minnesota.  Fees may be greater for smaller groups or if the course is conducted off-site.  Please call or email for further information.
