Why a Utah Permit?
The Utah non-resident concealed firearms permit is one of the most popular permits to get other than that of your home state. We pick Utah for the following three reasons:
1. You can apply for a Utah permit by mail (unlike Minnesota where you have to apply in person at your Sheriff's office).
2. Utah's firearm permit is one of the most widely recognized permits in the United States. A Utah Concealed Firearms Permit held by a non-resident is recognized by the following states: SD, ND, MT, WA, ID, WY, UT, AZ, NM, AK, TX, OK, MO, AR, LA, MS, IN, OH, KY, TN, AL, GA, NC, VA, VT, NH, NV, PA, WV, NE and DE.
3. Cost: Currently the fee that you pay to the State of Utah for a 5 year Utah permit is $65.25 - renewals are only $10.
What is involved in the course: Much of the training required by the State of Utah is virtually identical to the training provided in the Minnesota Carry Permit course. The training in the Minnesota class is structured to fully comply with Section One of the Utah mandated training. As such, a person taking the Minnesota Carry Permit course can get the Utah certification by spending an additional hour in a Utah class. In this hour, we review certain Utah legal aspect subjects as well as going over some Utah specific requirements (Statutes/laws). Additionally, we review carry in other states (including how to acquire this information) as well as carry on the airlines.
How long is the course: 1+ hour Utah class in addition to the normal Minnesota Course.
When is the course offered?: The Utah course is offered at the end of every Minnesota Carry Course. The Utah course can also be scheduled as a separate 6 hour course for $70 each (MINIMUM OF 3 PARTICIPANTS).
Cost: When taken at the end of a regularly scheduled Minnesota Carry Permit Course, the Utah course fee is $40 and includes all of the required forms for application to the State of Utah. The required passport style photo may also be provided for $5 if we have a photographer available. Note that this is a certification fee only! The State of Utah charges $65.25 for the background check and the issuance of the 5 year permit. Probably the best thing about having a Utah permit is that, when it comes to renewal after the intial 5 years, Utah DOES NOT require re-training and the cost to renew your Utah permit for another 5 years is ONLY $10!
